Comprehensive care, advocacy and support

The Down Syndrome Clinic at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands provides comprehensive multidisciplinary clinical care, advocacy and support for children with Down syndrome from birth to 21 years of age.

We are committed to working with families and primary care providers to help each child with Down syndrome reach his or her full potential and function as independently as possible in all aspects of life.

Children referred to the Down Syndrome Clinic will be seen by a multidisciplinary care team that includes a:

  • Pediatrician
  • Clinical geneticist
  • Gynecologist
  • Speech therapist
  • Physical therapist
  • Occupational therapist
  • Nutritionist
  • Family Connection parent coordinator
  • Nurse
  • Language interpreter

Care and support

Because children with Down syndrome are more prone to certain medical conditions and health care issues, the Down Syndrome Clinic partners with Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group and Family Connection of South Carolina to provide referrals to pediatric subspecialists and other therapies as appropriate.

When children become teens, we work to help prepare them for independent living, connecting families with resources in their communities.
