Outpatient Physical and Specialty Therapy

Specialty care you can trust.

We provide physical, occupational and speech therapy, delivering specialized care through specialty teams and programs. We treat pediatric patients with a variety of developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, orthopedic and sensory-processing conditions. We also treat pediatric patients with language acquisition, articulation and fluency, and feeding disorders.

Our therapists will evaluate and create treatment programs for your child in a relaxed play-oriented and loving environment. Parents are encouraged to be part of the team and participate in the goal-setting and therapy strategies for their children.

Our commitment to individualized, one-on-one patient care ensures a unique and meaningful patient and family experience.

Physical Therapy (PT)

Pediatric physical therapy focuses on the treatment of babies, toddlers, children and teenagers who have conditions related to physical, genetic, neurological and orthopedic disorders. We strive to create a child friendly environment where our specifically designed treatment techniques and exercises are completed during play, making the experience fun for the child. We help children by teaching them balance, coordination and gross motor skills. Our goal is to help your child achieve their highest level of potential.

Areas of Treatment May Include:

  • Strength
  • Range of motion (arms, legs, neck)
  • Ambulation (walking)
  • Developmental milestones (rolling, sitting, crawling, walking)
  • Gross motor skills (running, jumping, skipping, galloping, hopping, stair climbing and more)
  • Balance skills
  • Coordination skills
  • Treatment following orthopedic surgery
  • Wheelchair seating and mobility
  • Orthotic and adaptive equipment screening and management
  • Alignment and postural training

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Occupational therapy helps children focus on and gain independence with their “occupations” or daily activities in their natural environments, including home, school and community. We help them learn to do what they want and need to do through play. These activities will improve their coordination, attention, planning skills, fine motor skills and organization so they are able to complete tasks such as focusing on schoolwork, self-feeding, writing and getting dressed in a more efficient way.

Areas of Treatment May Include:

  • Strength
  • Coordination
  • Fine motor skills
  • Handwriting
  • Feeding aversions
  • Visual processing
  • Sensory integration
  • Motor planning
  • Self-care

Therapists work closely with parents on goal setting and establishing home education programs that are carried over weekly to encourage progress.

Areas of Treatment May Include:

What to Expect

Nationwide, leading children’s hospitals follow a model of care that we refer to as an “Episodes of Care” model.

An Episode of Care consists of an evaluation followed by treatment for a period of three-six months. Each Episode of Care allows a child and therapist to work hard toward the goals they have set for this period. One of the important goals includes developing a home program.

After an Episode of Care in therapy, a child will be discharged to continue their program at home for six months. The Episode of Rest (at home/school) allows for social interaction and development of the child outside of therapy and an opportunity for natural physical development and growth to occur for six months while continuing with their home program.

Following the Episode of Rest, a follow-up with a physician will determine the need and benefit for a new Episode of Care with therapy.

We believe this model of Episode of Care, followed by a scheduled Episode of Rest, at a minimum results in the following benefits:

  • Allows and encourages social development of a child outside of the therapy environment
  • Improves  quality of care
  • Improves outcomes (results) for children and families
  • Reduces the strain on families’ time and resources

Your therapist will discuss details of the Episode of Care with you at your first appointment.
