Child Life Volunteers
At Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, our Child Life Volunteers help us enhance the level of compassionate care we provide our patients. We greatly appreciate the time, sense of responsibility and flexibility our volunteers offer. In return, we offer a wide variety of ways to serve and opportunities to match your interests and talents. We integrate our volunteers into our quality patient care mission to meet the needs of those we serve.
Deven Champenri has been a Child Life Volunteer with Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital since 2016.
“I volunteer because I love making the kids smile. When I get the opportunity to make a child laugh, or simply just turn a bad day into a better one, it makes me so happy. Just to know that I made one person’s life a little brighter is rewarding. I plan on becoming a pediatric oncologist in the future and spending time with the kids just makes me want to work harder and pursue my career.”
Elizabeth Parker has been a Child Life Volunteer at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital since 2012.
“Children don't have a voice and they look to adults to be that voice of strength and reason. I believe they need our protection and love through illness and harm. As a volunteer, I can support not only those children, but their families. To be able to provide toys to distract a scared child, coffee breaks for tired parents, hugs or songs for a lonely baby, or even a sweet dog through pet therapy; I am allowed the opportunity to both share my passion and grow as an individual. I thank Children’s Hospital and the Child Life Staff for their guidance and support.”
